"By the second half of
this decade, ASEAN will be Asia Pacific’s third
largest automotive market and Thailand will be its natural
hub as Southeast Asia’s only true manufacturing
exporter."(1)
Car makers obsessed by numbers are
looking at the ASEAN regional market that is home to
more than 400 million people.
For many years, Thailand has captured the lion’s
share of automotive investment in Southeast Asia with the
likes of General Motors, Ford, DaimlerChrysler, Volkswagen,
Volvo, BMW, Isuzu, Toyota, Mitsubishi, Nissan, Honda and
Hino having established production bases in Thailand. Thailand
has drawn up the “Automotive Industry Master Plan’ which
aims at the production of one million vehicles in 2006
(700,000 pickup trucks and 300,000 passenger cars) with
a value of US$11.6 billion and a 40% export ratio.
“Motor vehicles are Thailand’s third biggest
export today after agriculture and fishery but within three
or four years, automotive will be our primary export.” (2)
Thailand’s pickup production capability, inclusive
of engines and bodywork is well developed and is currently
the world’s second largest market for pickup trucks.
It’s ability to achieve world-class production quality
and a combination of government schemes and incentives
have all contributed to its star status for automotive
production.
Auto Components + Aftermarket 2003 provides the ideal
marketing platform for companies wishing to enter or expand
their sales activities in this high potential ASEAN automotive
market. The comprehensive exhibition programme and its
